[In letter to editor signed Atticus, the following:]
They must know little of mankind, if they cannot see
instances which prove Pope's position versified:
  Who sees pale Mammon pine amidst his shore,
  Sees but a backward stepward for the poor:
  This year a reservoir, to keep and spare;
  The next, a fountain, spouting thro' his heir.
